We had a small number of adults competing at the 2026 Shamrock Cup, but we had an incredible performance from everybody. We blooded a few debutants, gained valuable experience, and picked up a few medals along the way, as well as a third-place podium spot in the team category.

Overall, this was a really successful tournament — one of the most successful in recent memory for us.

Our first event of the day was Gi. We had James Doherty, Keith Geoghegan, Mark Leech, Reuben Oglesby, Max Oglesby, and Mo Alkadi on the mats.

The standout performer here was Mark Leech, who took home gold in the Masters Purple Belt division. He not only won the division, but also won the big gym rivalry: Mark versus Keith!

Which is better? You'd have to ask him.

Max Oglesby picked up a nice bronze medal in the Open Class Gi division in the Blue Belt category.

There was also a great performance from Trombone James Doherty, who pulled off a clutch win by points in the final few seconds of his Open Class Blue Belt match.

Later in the day came No-Gi.

First up was Reuben Oglesby in his Juvenile Blue Belt category. After a points win in the semi-final, he pulled off a tremendous submission victory in the final to take home the gold.

Success also came for Mo Alkadi in the White Belt Ultra Heavyweight division, competing in his first competition. He put in a dominant performance, securing two submissions along the way.

Next up was Max Oglesby, who picked up his first gold medal. A submission in the semi-final followed by a dominant points victory against a very tough opponent in the final closed out the day for him.

But not before his brother had also taken home gold in the Open Class Juvenile division!

These medals, along with a bronze picked up by James Doherty and another bronze for Bailey Brennan, meant that Kyuzo took third place on the podium in the team category, bringing home our first team trophy in quite a while.

But, as always, it’s straight back to the mats on Monday.

We can’t rest on our laurels. Jiu-Jitsu is about constant improvement, and after this event, we’ve still got plenty to work on.

We always look at the good, the bad, and the ugly, and try to improve upon the good, reduce the bad, and eliminate the ugly!
