Happy New Year- Let's Do Something!

I hope you had a a good break over the Christmas and are looking forward to getting back into training, or indeed starting Jiu Jitsu. Here’s a quick few things we have coming up in the next few months.

A Few Gym Improvements

You’ll see some changes in the building in the next few weeks. We already have some improvements to the lighting inside the building, and you’ll see some more illumination outside in the car park area, and even outside the car park next week.

We’re also improving the showers with some re-fitting, and there’ll be some improvements to the changing facilities. Please be patient with us as we do this, as it might mean no showers for a short period in January. We’ll give as much notice of that as we can.

New Area For Rent

By the way, we also have a refitted and cleared multi-purpose area for rent downstairs. If you know of any group, personal trainer, or anyone looking to start their own classes, this area is now for rent to the right client at an hourly rate. It’s about 800sqm and is fully matted with rubber gym flooring. Get them to give me a shout [email protected]

3 Months of Seminars

We’ve got 3 seminars in 3 months! We usually run a winter camp post-Europeans, but this time out we’re going to get 3 smaller seminars in, starting with Tom “Headhunter” Higgins, world catch wrestling champion, later this month. We’ll then have Sam McNally, who is one of the best operators out there right now in February, and then in March we’ll have Paul Redmond, who’s wrestling was on show at the last Polaris.

January 23rd- Tom “Headhunter” Higgins

February 13th- Sam McNally

March 20th- Paul Redmond

Cost for each of these will be €30 which is about as low as we can get it!

Tournaments

On the home front, we’ll be at the Emerald Cup first, that’s on February 8th, and we’ll be hoping to hit this one in force as it’s about as much a “home” tournament as we can get, with the venue being a few km from our gym. After that, the IBJJF are in town in April, and then the Irish Open in May.

We had an incredibly successful year internationally last year, with plenty of medals coming back to the gym, and we’ll be hoping to see a few more people travel to compete, with Lisbon in late January for Christina Donnelly already in the books, then the London Open in February, Milan in April, and then the Masters Euros in Barcelona in late May.

Why not you?

No matter what your goal this year, set a target and go for it. I spoke a little bit in last week’s blog about setting goals and laying down plans for the new year. Even if you get halfway toward that target, you’ll have made progress. The worst thing in the world is to do nothing and try nothing.

If you need some advice or guidance, I’ve always got time after class. Come see me!

See you on the mat,

Barry
