Jiu Jitsu in the Winter Time

We train all year round. It’s one of the great things about Jiu Jitsu. You get to train indoors! So when the cold hits, you’re still on the mat, and you don’t have to worry about the pitch being flooded, or layering up in the cold.

But, for some reason, when the dark evenings kick in, and the temperatures drop, people take their foot off the pedal. I get it. It’s hard to motivate yourself to get up and go once you’re back in your warm house.

Actually, if it’s really warm, it’s the same. So I have a theory that the optimum weather conditions for training Jiu Jitsu are- Between 13 and 17 degrees, cloudy but not raining, a light breeze but no wind.

Then I’ll have jam-packed classes.

But here’s to winter!

Here’s to warming up to a good sweat, and then seeing steam rising off the bald guys heads.

Here’s to having to think about warming up your fingers and toes!

Here’s to the NoGi guys suddenly enjoying putting a jacket on!

Here’s to walking into the training room and feeling the body heat!

Don’t let a warm house swallow you this winter. Stay on the mat right through the end of the year!

We’ll stay warm together!

See you on the mat!
